After our China Giant Panda Videotaping project with WSB TV Atlanta (affiliate with ABC) this July, a pair of lovely Giant Pandas Lun-Lun and Yang-Yang arrived in Atlanta on 5 November 1999.

Pandas Arrive In Atlanta - (ATLANTA) -- A pair of giant pandas arrived in Atlanta aboard a plane called the "Panda Express" today from Beijing, China. Lun-Lun (loon-loon) and Yang-Yang (yong-yong) will have a 7-Million dollar home at Zoo Atlanta where they will be on loan for the next decade. Researchers will study the 2-year old pandas, trying to learn more about why endangered animals show little interest in mating while in captivity. Zoo director, Doctor Terry Maple, says he can't wait to begin the project. He says the zoo is taking the project very seriously. He notes that working together with Chinese colleagues, quote, "we're gonna learn a lot about these pandas." The pandas will not be on display at the zoo until later this month.

We are happy for the people of Atlanta for having our lovely pandas, and we are particularly happy to have the friendship ties built up between our people, that's what we are for - a golden bridge!

NEWS OF CHINA YUNNAN IN MEKONG REGION

In association with China International Horticultural Exposition 1999, the following projects have been done by the Government:

1. The new and modern Kunming airport
2. Dozens of new hotels, roads
3. Colorful decorations
4. Exciting Exposition Site
5. Kunming-Dali railway with both soft & hard sleepers carriage

PROJECT TO BE DONE AND WILL BE OPENED SOON

1. Zhongdian airport in northern Yunnan in Tibet shall be ready and open on May 25^th 99.

2. Kunming-Zhongdian flights will be operated first, then Zhongdian-Lhasa/Tibet flights will be operated in June this year.
