Study Tour on
Qinghai Tibet Plateau

Let's care for the Ecology environment of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

An investigation of the Ecology environment of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau from college students all over the world.

As the economy and travel industry develop in Tibet, the number of people visiting the autonomous region also increases. How to protect the plateau's pristine natural environment from human activities has become an issue of great concern. To raise the public awareness, the Tibet Tourism Bureau and the Tibet Environmental Protection Bureau will jointly sponsor a scientific expedition of Chinese and foreign students in July 1999. The two-week Summer Vacation Environment Survey will follow routes around the saltwater Qinghai Lake in Qinghai Province, the pasture land and lakes in northern Tibet and end in the regional capital of Lhasa.

The activity will enable students to collect first-hand information about the atmosphere, water resources, fauna and flora species in the highland. Local environmental experts will join the expedition teams to provide guidance. At the end of the tour, the students will write a report of their research results.

Due to logistical considerations, the number of people for the expedition will be limited to 300. Of these.

The activity has received support from many government and social organizations. A TV crew will follow the expedition and the documentary will be made into VCD as souvenirs for each participant of the eye-opening expedition. The organizers will compile the students' reports into book for publication.

Purpose: Through the on-the-spot investigation

1. To raise the attention of the public to the environment protecting in Tibet.

2. To Make the constructal suggestions to how do the environment protection with the developing of the tourism industry!

3. To improve the understanding between the domestical and alien's university students!

Itinerary:

Day 1 Hong Kong - Guangzhou- Xining
Aggregate in Hong Kong Ferry Terminal to Canton and fly from Canton to Xining. Overnight in Xining hotel or similar.
   
Day 2 Xining
Xining sightseeing tour: Lamasery, Sun Moon Mountain, Qinghai Lake. A party for domestic and foreign students in the evening. Overnight in Qinghai Lake Camp hotel or similar.

Day3-4 Qinghai Lake
Investigation in Qinghai Lake, Bird Island, Buha Pa River on the spot investigation, afternoon listen to the Lect expert, students debating enjoy the Tibetan singing and dancing. Overnight in Qinghai Lake Camp hotel or similar.

Day 5 Qinghai Lake - Gulund
Drive to Gulund, visit Salt Lake and GoBi scenery. Overnight in Gulund hotel or similar.

Day 6 Gulund - Nachu
Drive to Nachu, sightseeing at the Kumlum Mountain pass the Tuo Tuo River, Tanggula Mountains pass along the way. Overnight Nachu hotel or similar.

Day 7 Nachu
Investigation in the Northern Tibetan grassland. Overnight in Nachu hotel or similar.

Day 8 Danging
Investigation in Namco Lake, enjoy the beautiful scenery of the lake Danging. Overnight in Guesthouse or similar.

Day 9 Lhasa
Visit Yamgbajing. Overnight in Tibet Plaza hotel or similar.

Day 10 Lhasa
Sightseeing in Lhasa, Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhore. Overnight in Tibet Plaza hotel or similar.

Day 11Lhasa
Yamdrok lake investigation in the lake. Overnight in Tibet Plaza hotel or similar.

Day 12 Lhasa
Investigation in Yarlun ZangPo River and Lhasa River. Overnight in Tibet Plaza hotel or similar.

Day 13 Lhasa
Summary study investigation results. Overnight in Tibet Plaza hotel or similar.

Day 14 Lhasa
Sightseeing tour : Turpeng Monastery, Norbulingka, Yaowang. Overnight in Tibet Plaza hotel or similar.

Day 15 Lhasa - Chengdu - Shenzhen
Flight from Lhasa - Chengdu - Shenzhen, arrive Shenzhen then transfer to Lowu Custom (Mainland China side). End of the trip [Optional: Flight from Lhasa - Chengdu - Guangzhou]

Land Cost: from USD1395/pax

Service includes:

All transfers, all domestic flights/trains(except Shenzhen or Lowu to Hong Kong KCR train)/cruises, land transport, 3 meals daily, service of guide and driver, sightseeing & entrance fees, tourist class hotels on twin share basis, tents in camping section, support horse/yaks and herders during trekking, a welcome and a farewell banquet.

Service excludes:

International flights and related airport taxes, local airport taxes, supplementary trips and services not mentioned, Shenzhen or Lowu to Hong Kong KCR train fare, personal expenses, visa costs, tips to tour guide and driver, supplement cost for those who wants to accommodate on a single basis.
