The Ganden to Samye route has proved to be one of the most captivating of all Tibetan treks. Offering a new variation through the intensely cultivated Gyama Valley, a less arduous yet demanding route is traversed. Terminating in Tsedang, we experience an area with a diverse historical and religious background. We find ourselves in the very cradle of Tibetan civilization, the Yarlung Valley, where according to tradition the Tibetan race had its origins. We also visit the first Buddhist monastery of Tibet at Samye, the royal tombs in the valley of the Kings as well as the Yumbulakang Palace of Tibet's first King, the oldest building in Tibet.

Commencing in Kathmandu we fly to Lhasa, there taking short visits to the famous Sera and Drepung Monasteries and the Palaces of Potala and Norbulingka, and after preliminary excursions to the important monastic centers of Shigatse and Gyantse, we drive through Ganden to begin our trek near the small village of Josumba.

Along this route the individual not only receives a great feel for the contours of the land and rhythm of its people but also a wonderful opportunity to be amongst the beautiful landscapes and flora of this most significant region of Tibet.
