Since the third century Sichuan has been known as 'Heaven on Earth' in celebration of its fertile land and magnificent scenery. It is also the home of Giant Pandas. The trip offers the fantastic chance to see Giant Pandas and look for rare and beautiful birds and plants in one of the world's most spectacular environments.

Our first stop is at Wolong, China's largest and most important sanctuary for Pandas. Apart from the fascinating, yet illusive, Giant pandas, the surrounding scenery ranges from lowland waterfalls and forests to alpine meadows fringed by snow-capped peaks.

We travel north through the vast and beautiful Hongyuan grassland to the edge of the Tibetan Plateau. From here we travel southeast to the spectacular alpine valley at Jiuzhaigou and its stunning blue lakes and waterfalls, another large sanctuary for the Giant Panda, a nature photographer's dream.

After returning to Chengdu where we travel west to Baoxin county where the world's first Giant Panda was discovered in 1869. In Fengtongzai Nature Reserve, founded in Baoxin in 1979 Giant Pandas live in a wonderful setting of forests surrounded by rugged snow-capped mountains and can be seen in their natural condition.
